Featured Artist: Victoria Frances

Vampire art? Of course, now that Twilight and TrueBlood are making waves in the entertainment industry everyone is hungry for anything vampire-esque. But, before Twilight was in print and before Sookie Stackhouse was dating a vampire named Bill, Victoria Frances was creating gothic vampire art.

Born on Ocotober 25th 1982 in Valencia, Spain, Victoria Frances felt her deep passion for art and nature at an early age. In her youth she was fascinated by the beauty and purity of nature, particularly the forests in Galicia. As she grew older, she found her inspiration in cities, rather than in nature. As she travelled to London and Paris she was captivated by the atmosphere the cities presented. From this inspiration in these ancient Gothic cities, she found her drive to attend San Carlos University in Valencia where she studied Fine Arts. From there she started to work as an illustrator and designer for book covers.

Soon after her studies she published her first book Favole, which was a remembrance of Verona, Venice and Genoa. Favole (Stone Tears) became a sensation in the 2004 Salo del Comic in Barcelona, and later became successful worldwide in all the countries it was published.

Following Favole was Favole 2 (Set Me Free) and Favole 3 (Frozen Light) which earned her even more success. Her most recent work is called El Corazon de Arlene (Arlene's Heart) in 2008.

Most of Frances' work is gothic inspired and mostly depict haunting images of women in long gowns amongst nature. Quite obviously, Frances notes her inspirations as Edgar Allan Poe, Anne Rice and H.P Lovecraft.

Victoria Frances was the original vampire queen; creating haunting art that captures the viewers imagination and emotions.
